The Special Features and Benefits of Signs Manufacturing Corporation's Wall Cabinet Signs
The Special Features and Benefits of doing business with Signs Manufacturing™
Don't buy your sign from a drawing, a slick website, or photo-shopped pictures, when you can actually see and side-by-side compare Real signs and designs.
No matter what types of signs you are interested in, our team of Sign Experts, consisting of 11 highly-trained individuals, is at your beck and call.
Let us meet with you in your office, or at your new signs location, or home, or anywhere.
You will probably have a firm quotation, not a non-binding "estimate" like most competitors provide, for what you want during our meeting; certainly no more than a day later.
We can design and build your next sign while maintaining Social Distancing guidelines
Our Showroom is open and sanitized so you can safely review the different options available for your new signage.
Also, we have many options to help design your new look, from collaborating remotely (from your own home bridged to our design team) to designing with you in our Projection Room, which is large enough to maintain Social Distancing.
It is difficult to picture what a sign is going to look like. What do you picture when we say "triple-layer multi-colored lighting with a textured backplate?"
Our showroom is designed to solve that problem. Most people are visual ... they need to see something firsthand to understand what it is and whether it has value to them. Seeing is believing!
Don't buy your sign from a drawing, a slick website, or photo-shopped pictures,
when you can actually see and side-by-side compare Real signs and designs.
Are you a "visual" person? Is seeing believing?
Unique in the entire sign industry, Signs Manufacturing™ built an 85’ by 50’ (over 4,000 sq ft) indoor sign lighting laboratory for testing the longevity, visibility, and effectiveness of all the lighted signs we manufacture. The Laboratory is open to the public, for FREE.
Don't buy your sign from a drawing, a slick website, or photo-shopped pictures, when you can actually see and side-by-side compare Real signs and designs.
Thousands of visitors have learned about sign design, materials, construction, lighting; and their effect on a business.
We invite you to also observe all other types of signage, viewing them up close as well as from a distance, under varying light conditions (and stay out of the weather while doing so!)
Will your Sodium Vapor or Metal Halide parking lot lights affect the colors of your sign at night? How visible will your pylon sign’s border neon be during the day? Should you consider PinLights™, LetterLites™, SpectraLites™, or Trembler™ signs? Brighter Signs™ neon or SolarBrite™ LED lighting for channel letter signs? Fluorescent or HID lighting for your monument sign? Do Daylight or Cool White fluorescents make your sign’s colors look best? What are the differences between a flex-faced, a Lexan™, and an acrylic-faced sign cabinet?
How will shadows affect my sign's readability during the day? Should the wall behind my sign be light or dark colored? Would a different type of sign look better on my brick wall? Should I consider a routed sign face with push-through letters?
Don't buy your sign from a drawing, a slick website, or photo-shopped pictures, when you can actually see and side-by-side compare Real signs and designs.
No one else can offer you this unique opportunity. Be sure to take advantage.
Your business will be better because you do.
If you don't visit it could cost you thousands in sales every year.
Can you afford not to?
Sometimes it really pays to shop.
As an additional enticement to coax you into our showroom, and also smooth our manufacturing flow, we periodically have limited Specials only available "in-store;" even unannounced to our team of Sign Experts.
They are based on opportunities in our production scheduling. If we tell our Sign Experts in advance they collectively sell too many, causing other problems!
Specials are always for a specific type of custom-built sign with a large variety of available options, but a very limited quantity, and first-come-first-served.
As detailed below, and on the pages that follow, everything will be done to make your sign look better, and last longer...Guaranteed.
WHOLESALE TO THE PUBLIC! Signs Manufacturing™ also guarantees that our price will be the lowest price you can obtain on the products described in this website; now or anytime during the next 90 days.
If you are offered a lower price by someone else we will match that lower price PLUS give you 10% of the difference.

Why not buy from a Sign Dealer (also called a Sign Broker or a Sign Store?)
Would you give a car dealer $10,000 and tell him to buy you the best car he can for the money, sight unseen (or from a drawing?) Don't you think you would get the car that made him the most?
Do you think you could meet your needs asking for the cheapest car he can buy?
Why would a sign dealer (Car Wrap company or sign store) be any different? Remember, they are merely buying a sign from a manufacturer to resell to you, usually to resemble a drawing, making the most money they can.
You need to know ALL of the details on how your sign will be manufactured, and how it will be installed. It needs to meet YOUR needs, not the seller's profit goals. What is he telling the manufacturer you don't need?
Believing "...a sign is a sign" gets you a Yugo instead of a Cadillac. Remember the Yugo? They didn't last very long, either.
Also, most sign dealers, Car Wrap companies and sign stores cannot legally install or service an electric sign. Ask to see their license.
Ask to see a manufacturer's license also. A few are not licensed to do electrical work, either, they also have to hire other companies to install the signs they make.
Now, who provides the warranty? The manufacturer, the installer, the salesman, anyone? If the sign was installed illegally do you think they'll honor their warranty? Did they REALLY obtain your City sign permit? Is the sign even safe?
As a large, both UL and ETL listed manufacturer, our name is on all our signs. Just like you, we can't afford to have a bad sign destroy our business. We have to care. Particularly with our 5 Year $0 Cost Warranty and Lifetime Guarantees.
The State of Texas does NOT allow the installation on non-Listed electrical signs, and a Texas Sign Contractors License (TSCL) is not evidence of an OSHA approved Listing for electrical signs. Additional approvals are required.
Virtually ALL cities, as well as the State of Texas, adopt the National Electric Code as law.
The National Electric Code (NEC) requires that for electrical, structural, and installation safety all electrical signs be "Listed" (tested and labelled with an appropriate Listing Mark.)
Certification (testing and labeling) organizations acceptable in the USA to test to the multitude of Standards signs are required to meet are determined by OSHA.
For you the Listing Mark is insurance. It means that the sign has been tested to insure that it is structurally and electrically safe, and will be installed properly. You benefit from the knowledge that it is not solely us telling you that our signs are safe, this is what the testing laboratories and the US Government says also.
Will your sign be tested and approved for safe use in a Wet (Outdoor) location? Not if it’s not Listed!
If the sign you are purchasing does not have a ETL or UL Listing Mark label the sign is probably not legal to install, anywhere in Texas. There are a few local city ordinance exceptions.
Buy carefully.
For more detailed information on "listing and labeling" click on the "Labeled & Listed" tab in the Knowledge Tree™ tab in the left column.
For strength, durability, and appearance your illuminated signs will be constructed of aluminium (#3003, H14 - not the "soft" aluminium used by some) covering a welded structural-steel inner frame.
Large metal areas will be reinforced to prevent "oil-canning".
The structural-steel frame inside the sign is separately painted before the aluminium skins are installed; important to prevent rust stains later.
Some companies use plastic, Dibond and ACM-type products for their outdoor sign cabinets. Your Texas sign gets heated! Dibond and ACM Sheets (Aluminum Composite Materials) which sandwich polyethylene between two thin sheets of aluminum are especially subject to warping.
Plastics and metals expand and contract at different rates. With Dibond and ACM-type sheets used outdoors, because they are made of two dissimilar types of materials (plastic and aluminium) warp with temperature, hot and cold. They are not designed for this application, but some sign companies manufacture outdoor signs using them.
They shouldn't.
The thickness of a sign does more than impart a more prominent importance to a sign, it affects the graphics.
The minimum allowable thickness of a sign depends on the type of internal lighting and the type and size of the sign face.
Lighting and sign face types will be discussed later.
The larger the sign face the thicker a properly made sign cabinet must be.
It is very important that the sign be thick enough that the lighting in the sign does not show as "hot spots" or "zebra striping" on the face of your sign. Either of these makes your sign look "cheap" no matter what its cost. In some instances these can be so bad that a sign is not readable at night. You've seen them.
All of this makes the use of extruded aluminium sign frames problematic in building a quality sign, to say nothing about a strong sign (no structural steel inner frame) since extrusions are only available for limited cabinet depths; however some sign companies continue to attempt to do so. Signs Manufacturing™ does not use extruded cabinets precisely for these reasons.
We calculate what is required to make a proper and impressive sign for you, and then we build it.
It is more expensive to do the job right, but what is the value of a "cheap" sign that gives potential customers a negative impression of your business?
There are two different retainer types, 3-D “Picture-Frame” retainers, and “flat” retainers. Which one you choose can dramatically affect the appearance of your sign. View these retainer styles in our Showroom to understand their differences.
Equally important to the appearance of the sign is the width of the retainer (the ring of metal around the sign face that covers the mechanism that holds the sign face in the cabinet.)
This border plays a very important role in the apparent quality of your sign, and both size and color must be considered in the overall design.
This makes the use of pre-made extruded aluminium sign frames undesirable.
Tabs to other components of a cabinet sign are listed down the left side of this page.
Be sure to select the tab "Specifications" to the left. This is a tool for your use to insure that quotations you receive are for the same sign!
Please stop by and see all of these products displayed in our unique Sign Lighting Laboratory and Display Showroom.
Unlike virtually all other manufacturers, we realize that if the bottom retainer, which is simply screwed in place on most signs, falls off, a plastic sign face also falls off; probably breaking. Our bottom retainer is a fixed part of our sign, and is not removable without disassembling the entire bottom of the sign cabinet. Much safer.
While it usually costs more to manufacture a rounded-corner sign than a square-edged sign, you should allow us to do so if your budget will allow. Why? Because your sales will probably improve!
In the mid-1960’s Procter & Gamble changed the labeling on their Tide® detergent. The new design eliminated the round “target” in their logo. Sales immediately dropped. They immediately redesigned the logo to add-back the round “target” and sales immediately jumped back up, then increased. This revelation caused a revolution in car designs as well as everything else.
Learn from this; it is now a proven marketing fact that softer, rounded, less “sharp” logos psychologically create a more favorable impression.
When Head & Shoulders® hair shampoo was first being developed, samples were distributed to college students in both rectangular and in rounded containers. Test results were that students loved the product in the rounded containers, but thought that the product in the rectangular bottles made their scalp itch. Have you noticed the round “swirl” in the Head & Shoulders® logo?
Visit our Showroom to compare multiple examples of signage with both “squared” and “rounded” corners and “looks.” Decide for yourself before committing to a sign design that can determine the success of your business.
Solar panels are ugly and expensive.
So what can you do when it is cost-prohibitive to run power to a sign location?
Signs Manufacturing™ created an affordable, attractive, unobtrusive answer. We created an outdoor, wet-location, sealed solar-panel and multiple-light combination pack specifically designed for signs. Patent and Listing Pending.
NO ELECTRICAL WIRING REQUIRED!
NightLit™ lighting is designed to not be as bright as an advertising sign; it is designed to provide adequate, attractive lighting for identification, directional, and informational signage purposes.
Three screws/bolts can attach this sign to virtually any surface. It is solar-powered with internal back-up power rated to last 72 consecutive hours without recharging. Automatic self-contained on-at-dusk, off-at-dawn controls.
An example of where it can be beneficial is building identification.
Modern America searches for locations using computer assistance, and by address and suite/apartment numbers, primarily. Even while driving.
The International Fire Code (IFC) 505.1 contains specific requirements for commercial building identification. Many AHJ’s (Authorities Having Jurisdiction) modify these basic requirements to require that building identifications, including both address and/or units identification where appropriate, be lighted to aid emergency service responders at night.
Frankly, this requirement also aids package and food delivery companies (UPS, FedEx, Uber, Lyft, GrubHub, etc.) Many apartment and condo management companies use this amenity of user-friendly lighted building identification as a selling point to prospective dwellers who might have guests/deliveries trying to find their apartment at night.
Specific to emergency response, some AHJ’s require that lighted address identification remain lighted if the power supply to the building is disrupted; a very good idea. But it has been very costly to meet modified IFC 505.1 rules with existing structures because of the cost of providing power and back-up power to retrofitting signage; until now.
Increased safety and convenience at an affordable cost.
Other uses?
Adding a lighted address to an unlighted monument sign.
Adding lighted directional signs in parking lots.
A lighted Valet Parking A-frame sign.
A lighted real-estate or construction temporary sign.
Lighted informational signs, directory signs, identification signs…etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.
It is relatively cheap, can be permanently custom-inscribed, custom-painted, UV-protected, vandal-resistant-coated, repairable, and readily available!
There are, however, size and design restraints on this technology. Discuss your vision with us; since we’re the ones who created NightLit™ we’re the experts. We’ll create a way to make it work for you.
Our initial product requires a 24-36” cabinet length, and a height of 15” or less.
When our founder was very young he managed a supermarket, a grocery store.
He discovered that he could affect the store's business by simply turning “on” the store's signs on less-than-sunshiny days. Cloudy and/or rainy days would have a higher sales volume than bright days, IF HE REMEMBERED TO TURN THE SIGNS ON.
And with the tinted window glass so prevalent in the South it is often-times hard to tell if a business is even open.
These are lessons every business person should be aware of. And, with today's modern LED illuminated signage, it costs practically nothing to make your store really stand out!
What is the main reason our Sunburst™ LED outdoor digital signs increase a store’s business so dramatically? Lighted signs draw much more attention than unlighted signs, even during the day!
Because we recognize how important this is, we will now install automatic electronic lighting controls on every lighted sign we manufacture*, factory calibrated to turn the sign “on” and “off” at times when lighting will help you do more business. Over the past 40+ years, we have documented EXACTLY when a sign’s lighting should be turned “on” to increase visibility on dark and/or rainy days, overcome shadows, and exactly when at dusk a sign should be turned “on.” The whole purpose of the sign, after all, is to attract attention to your business. We make your sign both more attention-getting AND more legible.
The setting varies for signs pointed East, West, North, or South, and varies for signs containing neon, HID lighting, fluorescents, and/or LEDs. It also varies by how the sign was built.
Our automatic electronic lighting controls are installed not only to recognize light levels, but also to sense shadows making signs less legible, and turn “on” the internal lighting accordingly. Optimum settings are custom-set for every sign.
Another example of our doing everything we can to insure that our signs make your business the most successful. As far as we know, no other sign manufacturer does this, for free or otherwise, for their customers.
If possible, have your electrician also wire a time clock to control the power supplying your signs. The time clock should be set to keep the sign “off” at times they should never be lighted, say 2:30 AM to 5:30 AM, the rest of the time whether the sign is “on” or “off” should be determined by our automatic lighting controls. USE ELECTRICITY WISELY TO MAKE YOUR BUSINESS THE MOST VISIBLE, BUT CONSERVE ENERGY.
Regarding “Energy Consumption” note how little energy our SolarBrite™ LED lighted signs use in a year!
Recognize that Intermatic and Tork time clocks, used by most electricians, are not finely adjustable, and at certain times of the year dawn and dusk occur at quickly-varying times, gaining or losing over 15 minutes of daylight each week. If you only have a time clock controlling power to your signs, savvy business owners must reset their time clocks constantly and carefully, and manually override them to turn “on” their signs on dark days. Good luck getting your employees to do this religiously – THIS IS ALSO WHY WE INCLUDE CALIBRATED AUTOMATIC THERMAL LIGHTING CONTROLS ON EVERY OUTDOOR SIGN WE MANUFACTURE.* Incidentally, we DO NOT use photo cells or photo eyes. They are neither precise nor reliable.
Anecdotal data suggests that increased profits resulting from this feature alone more than pays for the entire cost of most signs EVERY YEAR.
Unconvinced of the importance to you? View our control system in operation, and our supporting testing, in our Sign Lighting Laboratory and Showroom. Then you can decide if you agree that this is a critically important improvement in signage effectiveness.
*Dependent on size and design.
The failure mode for our automatic electronic lighting controls is “always on.” You will never be without an attractive sign if something should break; you’ll spend a little more on electricity until we get it fixed.
Knowing that our signs will be illuminated during the day we design our signs and lighting for daylight effectiveness; to take full advantage of our daytime lighting.
For instance, we pack backlighting to create a subtle glow during the day. If you are going to light a sign during the day the lighting better look good!
This is easier to accomplish when we incorporate our SolarBrite™ LongLife™ LEDs which are so much brighter than competitive LEDs.
If we didn’t use SolarBrite™ LEDs we couldn’t design and build signs that offered such an advantage when compared to competitive signs (Both our competitors, and your neighbor’s signs.) We don’t waste electricity, simply because our signs always stand out, even when both are lighted.
“We prosper because of our sign. Signs Manufacturing’s unique understanding of the use of colors and light both day and night causes our business to always be the most visible. No one else could work their magic!” – the 407 club

Your sign forms that very important "first impression" your potential customer has of your business. Your sign must always look nearly as good as it looked the day it was installed so that you don't give potential customers a worsening impression of your business as your sign ages.

There are $50,000 boats and there are $400 boats. Technically both are boats, but don't expect that $400 boat to keep your business afloat. The devil is in the details.
If a company goes to the cost and effort of adding value to their product (types and amount of lighting, paints, protective coatings, etc.), they're going to talk about it. Pay attention to what they aren't telling you.
Our websites, literature and proposals describe in detail what we are quoting, and why we are doing it.
